If you’re an hourglass
(i.e. your hips and bust are proportionate, with a clearly defined waist)
Do: Choose a pair that rises higher in the back than the front, which provides full coverage for your curves.
Don’t: Go for full-on skinny jeans. Pick a pair with a tapered leg, featuring more relaxed thighs and not-so-narrow ankles.
Do: Search for a curved and contoured waistband, which will adapt to your small waistline and cut down on gapping.

If you’re pear-shaped
(i.e. your hips are larger than your bust)

If you’re rectangular
(i.e. your hips and bust are proportionate, with no clearly defined waist)
Do: Create your own curves with bootcut or flared styles.
Don’t: Avoid embellishments. In fact, feel free to play around with everything from distressing and side zippers to moto detailing, all of which will draw the eye to your legs and help create the illusion of fullness.
Do: Explore all your options—a boyish, rectangular figure can look great in everything from high-rise skinnies to deconstructed boyfriend jeans.
Your no-fail denim fit: Wide-leg or flared jeans, which add volume to your straight-up-and-down figure.
If you’re apple-shaped
(i.e. your waist is larger than your hips and bust)
Do: Go for moderate-rise denim that hits mid-waist or slightly below your belly button, helping to camouflage your tummy.
Don’t: Search for high-rise fits, which can accentuate your stomach rather than flatter your figure.
Do: Stick with dark, clean washes and sturdy fabrics—both of which are instantly slimming.
Don’t: Opt for embellishments, big pockets, or pleats around your waist, which draws the eye to your midsection.
