Fashion Favorites: 6 Tips for Communicating With Your Stylist (and Getting the Best Collections & Edits Ever)

You’ve done all the right things: Chosen your category (Makeup, Intimates, Fitness, or Style), taken the style quiz to tell us a little more about yourself, and placed your order. But the communication and feedback doesn’t have to stop there. In fact, the more info you share with your Wantable personal stylist about your loves, likes, wants, needs (and yes, even your dislikes), the better she can tailor all your future Edits and Collections—and guarantee you’ll get pieces and products you don’t just like, but love.

To help you out, we’ve rounded up 6 tips straight from our stylists about how to better communicate with them and get the most out of your Wantable experience.

Knowing what you love is one thing, but actually seeing it is one of the easiest ways for your personal stylist to send you pieces and products she knows you’ll enjoy. Pinterest boards are a great way to share style inspiration with us—create one just for Wantable, and be sure to leave comments on each pin to explain what you like about a particular photo. Does the color jump out at you? Is it a single piece you adore, or the head-to-toe outfit? Would you like it even more if it was in a different color, length, or shape? Make sure to be specific, and share the link to your Pinterest board with your stylist so she can check out everything that’s inspiring you.

If Pinterest just isn’t your thing, you can still share your inspiration by letting us know your favorite colors, patterns, pieces, and even your celebrity style icons.

At Wantable, we love hearing from you, especially when it comes to suggestions on how to make your Collections and Edits match up with all your wants and needs. Leave us comments in your style quiz, at checkout, or by emailing us at hello@wantable.com—our stylists read every last comment and take them to heart when picking out each of your personalized pieces and products.

Be as specific as possible about what you do or don’t want to receive, as well as why you did (or didn’t) like a particular item we sent you. Was that lipstick just not the right shade? Did you discover that flare jeans aren’t really your thing? Letting your stylist know will guarantee you never receive those items again—and that your next order will be even better than the last.

For a lot of customers, ordering a Collection or Edit is all about the surprise—opening up your box to find trends, styles, and products you’ve possibly never tried before (or maybe never even thought of trying). After all, the mystery is half the fun. But if you know exactly what you want to receive in your next order, we want to know, too.

Use our new Stream service to request specific products you want your stylist to send you. On the off chance we don’t have a specific product in stock, your requests will still help your stylist get to know you, and she’ll be sure to send you a similar piece in the meantime.

It’s also helpful to know if you have certain needs or expectations each month. Do you need professional, suitcase-friendly clothes for an upcoming business trip? Are you looking for the perfect statement necklace to complete your anniversary dinner outfit? Knowing the types of events and occasions you’ll be using your products for helps us send you the right styles for the month ahead.

Now it’s our turn to make a request: leave reviews! If there’s only one thing you do to help your stylist get to know you, your taste, and your style better, it should be reviewing the products she sent you. Use the #impression tool when you process self-checkout each month to give your stylist the low down. Be sure to be as detailed as possible—what did you love about that eyeshadow? Why didn’t you like those fitness leggings? Touch on topics such as fit, cut, color, fabric, and pattern, among others. The more specific you are, the better we’ll be able to tailor your next order so it contains only stuff you truly love—and nothing you don’t.

It all starts with your style quiz. If you aren’t a fan of bright colors or bold patterns, choose “dislike” when we ask about them. If you’re a huge fan of glam accessories, tell us you love them. But it goes even further than that—tell us as much about what you don’t like as what you do like. If you’re not a fan of showing off your arms or don’t enjoy wearing a flowy silhouette, make sure to tell us. Our rule of thumb: it’s better to overshare than under share.

And if you’re ordering a Style or Fitness Edit or an Intimates Collection, make sure to provide as much detail as possible about your silhouette. Are you apple shaped? We want to know. Do you typically have a tough time finding jeans that fit in the thighs and the waist? Tell us! The better your stylist can understand your particular fit and shape, the better she’ll be able to tailor pieces and silhouettes to flatter your body and make you look you best.

It’s also important to be honest about your budget. We always want to send you pieces you love, but it’s even more crucial for you to receive pieces you love at prices you’re comfortable paying.

We know your taste can vary from day to day, month to month. That’s why we give you the option to update your style quiz as often as you want. Just log in, click on your name in the upper right corner, select Account, then look under “Subscriptions” to retake or update each of your quizzes. This is especially helpful if you love an item (i.e. sunglasses), but don’t want to receive it two months in a row. And remember: we’ll never send you anything you “dislike,” and we always try our hardest to send you the pieces you “love.”
