For the first day or so of your period, you feel bloated and all you can think about is going home to Netflix with a bag of chips and rocky road ice cream. However, exercise can actually relieve many of your normal period symptoms such as cramps, headaches, fatigue and more. For that reason, Cora has created a list of workouts that are perfect for when you are on period.
Living in a city can be really overwhelming and removing yourself from your frequent setting can be the perfect way to rejuvenate yourself. Take this time to reconnect with nature. Look up some trails right outside your city and go on a hike with your friends. You can make it a whole day event, complete with a picnic at a perfect viewpoint!
2. Strength Training
No, you won’t get jacked – you’ll get toned. You don’t have to do this alone either. Invite your friend over and pick one of the many strength-training workouts on Pinterest. Just remember not to lift a weight that’s too heavy as it puts pressure on your core and may worsen cramps.
Here are four poses that will relieve cramps and balance your energy. Do these at home or head to a studio. Follow up with some warm chamomile tea. Namaste.
Bow Pose: Lay on your tummy and reach to grab the outside of your ankles and lift them up straight into the air. This pose stretches the entire front portion of the body, relieving common symptoms like backaches and fatigue.
Camel Pose: This is the ultimate pose to relieve your midsection and relax. Get comfortable on your knees and reach back so that your palms are on the bottom of your feet and tilt your head back to look back.
Pasasana: It helps to relieve those deep lower back pains that seem impossible to reach. Put your palms together at the center of your chest and bend down to a squat. Take time holding your elbow to the outside of the opposite knee for the best stretch.
Fish Pose: You are going to sit cross-legged and lay back while grabbing your feet. Your knees will come up a little and your back will be arched. Yes, this is similar to Bow Pose! This stretches out everything, leaving you feeling refreshed.
If walking and running just aren’t your speed, then hop onto the elliptical. The endorphins your body produces while exercising will help relieve any pain and fatigue that you are feeling. Best part? You can watch Netflix on the elliptical – House of Cards, play on.
That’s right – in the club, at a Zumba class or even in your undies around your house. Let go and feel the music because big, free-flowing movements will increase the flexibility of your joints and get rid of period stiffness. Besides, who can listen to “Work” without doing a little booty shake? Put on your very own playlist by Cora and move!
P.S. One hour of dancing = 600 calories (that’s a McDonald’s Quarter Pounder Deluxe)
Having your period is not an excuse to skip out on your workout. As the saying goes, “The only bad workout is the one that you missed.” And remember, your period means that you have super workout capabilities so make use of them!
Working out helps you feel good inside and out. Cora, 100% organic tampons (free of all the bad stuff) help you rest assured that what you’re putting in your body is pure. While we want to make your period chicer, Cora has a bigger mission. With over 100 million girls lacking access to adequate menstrual products around the blog – causing them to miss school days during their period, which often leads to them dropping out by age 14. For every month’s supply of Cora you receive, we give a month’s supply of sustainable pads to a girl in a developing country so she can do anything during her period – from attending school to working out.
