What to Pack for Your Next Summer Getaway

Summertime and the livin’ is easy–well, most of the time anyway. Our schedules seem to get busier and busier and planning your next summer getaway calls for a lot of preparation. Picking the right pieces based on your destination, activities, and nailing the regional style can be tricky. We chatted with locals to get the inside scoop on what to wear and the best places to check out while you’re visiting some of our favorite big cities.

San Francisco

San Francisco exudes the laid-back California style of L.A., but with fall-like temperatures sticking around all year, it’s essential to include layers when packing for SF. A lightweight chambray jacket is a perfect solution for warding off the breeze. To fit in with the urban chic style of the locals, add a pop of neon and standout sneakers for a look that’s both trendy and comfortable for climbing to the top of all those tall hills.

Marin Headlands:  Just minutes from downtown, this national park is an incredible way to see the Golden Gate Bridge. With hidden beaches and trails, it’s also perfect for those seeking a little bit of outdoor adventure. Hike or ride a bike and don’t forget to pack some snacks to enjoy while you’re taking in all of the views.

Foreign Cinema: Located in the Mission District, this farm-to-table restaurant is a hidden gem that can’t be missed. If you go at night, you will be able to catch a movie on their patio projector while you enjoy their everchanging menu. It truly is a magical destination for enjoying food, cocktails, and film.

New York

NYC may be known for trying out all of the latest and boldest trends, but their street style is iconic for its timelessness and closet classics. If you’re planning your next summer getaway to the Big Apple, stick to the basics with fashion-forward accessories. Tuck a plain white tank into high waisted jeans and top it off with a black blazer. Finish your look with layered necklaces and a statement loafer.

Smorgasburg: This one is for you, foodies. It’s the largest weekly open-air food market in America! With up to 100 local vendor stands to choose from, you’ll be able to sample some of the cities best on your visit. We’ve been told that the Williamsburg location is the best. ?

The Met Cloisters: Even though you’re in NYC, you’ll totally feel like you’ve crossed the ocean to explore Europe when visiting the Cloisters. This branch of The Met features European medieval architecture, sculptures, and gardens. It’s perfect for those seeking a quiet refuge in the hustle and bustle of Manhattan.

Chicago

When you’re walking around the Windy City, you’ll look around and notice that it’s all about easy and effortless style. While fashion is at the forefront of the mind, it’s achieved through relaxed silhouettes and relatable pieces. Pack a linen jogger (they’ll keep you nice and cool) and pair them with a laid-back top and sneakers. Don’t forget a small crossbody to store all of your essentials!

Paradise Park: Yes, Chicago is known for its deep dish pizza, but Paradise Park is a can’t miss joint for ‘za lovers. It features an incredible patio for an atmosphere as amazing as the food. Located in the heart of the Wicker Park neighborhood, it makes it easy to walk around and spend time checking out shops like Myopic Bookstore and Gather.

Cindy’s: This place is a quintessential Chicago experience. It overlooks Millenium Park, offering great views of the iconic Bean along with delicious cocktails and food. To avoid larger crowds (and potential lengthy wait times), it’s best if you’re able to make a visit during the week.
