The 5 Pieces You Need to Build a Fall Capsule Wardrobe

Post by Jenn Wang

Whether you’re ready for it or not, fall is upon us! As the weather turns colder and the leaves turn red, it’s time to break out your fall wardrobe-essentials. No matter the season, it’s always worth it to invest in key pieces to build a seasonal capsule wardrobe. And if you’re one of those people who have a cluttered closet full of clothes, yet feel like you still have nothing to wear, a fall capsule wardrobe can help you build go-to outfits with pieces that go with nearly everything. The key to building a capsule wardrobe is finding timeless garments that are easy to layer, stylish enough to give you confidence in your outfits, yet classic enough to wear for multiple occasions. Check out these fall must-haves for your closet this year!

1. Olive Pants

Think about what a fall wardrobe color palette means to you. You better bet that olive is one of them!  Personally, olive is my favorite color to wear in the colder seasons. You must have at least one pair of solid olive pants to wear in fall. I love these olive chinos—their classic cut complements the trendy olive color and are wearable in both the office and social get-togethers.

2. A Sleeveless Blouse

Fall is all about layering! Invest in some cute sleeveless blouses that you can easily layer under jackets and cardigans without annoying sleeves bunching up underneath your outer layers. I love this patterned black and white chiffon blouse. The tie detail and the dot pattern are super stylish and it’s neutral and versatile enough to layer under virtually anything!

3. A Lightweight Jacket

Did I mention fall is all about layering? Whether you’re investing in a moto, leather, or suede jacket, make sure it’s a neutral color that can be paired with multiple color palettes underneath. These light jackets not only provide utility in warmth but also add an extra interesting layer to your outfit that doesn’t need to be taken off indoors.

4. A Simple Tee

Tuck it, knot it, wear it under a sweater or light jacket. An easy, comfy tee is pretty essential in any capsule wardrobe year-round but it also acts as another great layering piece for fall. Choose a simple patterned tee like this striped one here as a perfect fall essential.

fall wardrobe: dark denim

5. Cut Off Denim

Denim goes with literally everything. It’s a fact that you cannot build a fall capsule wardrobe without investing in a solid pair of  jeans. This season, choose a pair of cut off denim to stay on top of the latest trends without sacrificing versatility. Cooler washes like grey work well with the darker colors of fall.
